Brain Controlled Artificial Intelligent Mobile Remote Virtual Reality Accessories!

January 7, 2012

Sheridan Interactive Multimedia has a multimedia pioneering course that we have been running for almost 10 years.  It certainly has been exciting keeping up with the near future for so many years.  Some highlights for guest speakers have been: Bill Buxton, David Rokeby, Steve Mann, Vincent Jon Vincent, and dozens more.

We make sure the students build prototypes in technologies like multiuser, gesture tech, mediated reality (augmented and diminished).  We have prototyped tilt and multitouch for years – now these have moved into regular curriculum.

For the last few years we have also run club projects where groups run a club for various technologies.  For instance, last year we had Holograms, Reality Gaming, Ardino, Shape Recognition and Voice Recognition clubs.  The year before that was Wands, Second Life, Augmented Reality, iPhone, and 3D Vision.

This year the clubs were as follows with links to Blogs the students made for each topic:

Working on Tilt for Mobile Devices

Tilt Emulator for Mobile

Tilt Emulator for Mobile Devices

We are working on Tilt and Translation games and applications for mobile devices this year.  The project ideas are really cool and we look forward to showing them a the Spring Open House.

More information can be found here:  http://danzen.wordpress.com and a video of the emulator in action can be seen here:  Video: Tilt Emulator for Mobile Devices.  The emulator was built with PaperVision3D and AIR to leave XML as to tilt and translation information.  These technologies are also explored in our Sheridan Interactive Multimedia one year post grad program.

International students are encouraged to apply to the one year post-grad Sheridan Interactive Multimedia for multimedia design and development learning.

Please visit our institute’s International page for information about fees, the school and surrounding area in the Toronto region of Ontario, Canada.

Below are some stories from International students in the past. Canada is rich in diverse cultures and our International students have found they fit right in and obtain a valuable education. It is a very positive cultural experience for them, the other students and faculty. We welcome you!

My experience in the Sheridan Interactive Multimedia class…

I loved the atmosphere in IMM class, it was a fun space where you can pick what you love, focus and work on it. The instructors were supportive to what you are doing. I learned a lot of programming knowledge from the course – because I love multimedia programming.

My classmates were friendly and helpful to me as an international student (it was my first visit to north America). I loved working with them in the lab and hanging out, they are all very cool people. Writing up this paragraph, I am missing my school life now.

I really loved the Toronto environment and Oakville’s community – air is clean, people are really friendly. It is a great place!

Rodrigo Pluciennik (Brazil)

I always wanted to develop my computer skills. When I decided to come to Canada and take the Interactive Multimedia post graduated program at Sheridan College I had great expectations. Now, one year later, I can say my expectations were met. The teachers are high skilled professionals and they are always up to date with the new technologies on the market. The students come from all sorts of backgrounds and it makes a great learning environment. The class Infrastructure has the top technology on hardware and software. It is just the right place to learn about multimedia development.

Natalia Rojas (Columbia)

I have no words to describe how happy I am to have made the decision to go to Sheridan and complete the Interactive Multimedia post graduate program! The different courses offered and the projects I got to work on were not only interesting but very fun and exciting! I will never forget all the great people I got to meet and spend so much time with 😉 And thanks to our knowledgeable mentors who taught us so much and motivated us every second! What a great experience!! 🙂

Interactive Multimedia at Sheridan College, Canada is a fascinating program with latest courses for today’s industry which will keep me updated with the trend. The always ready to help teachers, Dan, Andrew, and Ian make this program a success.

Sheridan is known for its reputation in Canada. I applied to two Ontario’s renowned colleges (Sheridan and Humber) and fortunately chosen by both. Even though Humber College was offering me $1000 scholarship, still I chose Sheridan College because even sitting away, half-way around the world I was familiar with Sheridan and its reputation.

Interactive multimedia is about learning how to code, producing visual design, editing and affecting video, making motion graphics, and creating interactive environments where you can control the interface or game without using any mouse or keyboard, but cameras by moving your body in front it. To know more about interactive environments you can visit my blog at http://imm-param.blogspot.com/ .

My classmates are from different backgrounds like graphic design, programming, engineering, photography, medical science, commerce, finance, etc. It makes me wow when I mix my design and programming skills together to produce the result.

I think Sheridan is the perfect choice for me and I think you will also love it doing the Sheridan way. Good luck with your applications!!!

Examples of Adobe® AIR™ Applications with ActionScript 3 Code Provided

Examples of Adobe® AIR™ with ActionScript 3 Code Provided

Here is a set of applications made with Adobe® AIR™. You will need to get the Adobe® AIR™ Runtime Environment. Air lets you run Flash files (and JavaScript/HTML/Ajax/Flex) on your desktop. It is free, fast and easy to install and seemingly less intrusive than Java.

Our students worked on Air assignments to make small widgets. Applications that might be fun or useful that makes use of the Air features. Air features include:

  • Dragging Files onto Flash to load a picture for instance
  • Using chromeless and transparent or semi-transparent windows
  • Reading and writing files to the desktop
  • Working with advanced HTML in Flash

Code is provided for the examples so you can see how things are done. There are descriptions that are semi-tutorial in nature as well. Please remember that these are prototype applications and may not be supported. Still, they are easy to install and uninstall to check them out! You uninstall through the Windows add and remove software panel.

Japanese Falculty and Students Visit Sheridan Interactive Multimedia

March 13, 2008

Faculty and Design students from the Osaka University of Electro Communications in Japan are visiting the Sheridan Institute and came by the Interactive Multimedia labs for a Web Authoring class with Dan Zen.

View all pictures (click the picture in the show for information)

As you can see in the pictures, we had a wonderful time sharing work and ideas of what to build with new interactive technologies. We showed work in Video Motion Capture to the same effect as a WII but with an average camera, mobile prototypes with QR codes, sound beat analysis, pixel analysis combined with physics engine work to create interactive mazes from a maze picture, works with 3D from PaperVision in Flash, Adobe AIR projects and much more!

Sheridan has exchanges with the University and it was neat to see that as the students passed by a mural of last year’s students, that they recognized two of the faces from our Japanese visit!

Thank you to all involved in organizing the exchange and the tour. It was a wonderful experience, sharing ideas and seeing how our cultures are overlapping. We certainly welcome opportunities for exchange and of course encourage international students to consider our program – http://imm.sheridanc.on.ca
